Big Sister Karen and Little Sister Shamira have been matched since September, 2005. Karen and Shamira hit it off from the start. Since their match date, Karen and Shamira have formed a relationship that is nothing short of true sisterhood. In the past year, they have done some really exciting things.

Shamira’s mother spares no superlatives when describing her daughter’s relationship with her Big Sister Karen. Both Karen and Shamira have the best things to say about each other and the time they spend together. In the year together, Karen has been a very positive influence in Shamira’s life. She has stressed the importance of higher education and often takes her to college events. Karen has taught Shamira how to ice skate and together they have developed a love for the ice. They can often be found having fun at our BAF events, when not at our events they are most likely at an ice skating rink.

Karen works hard to come up with fun yet educational activities. One such activity that Karen planned was a trip to a toy store with Shamira. Karen and Shamira picked out toys to send overseas to the children in Iraq. What an incredible and altruistic outing for a volunteer to share with a child. Karen and Shamira have a wonderful relationship; they have engaged in activities that are not only fun but also charitable.

Karen and Shamira truly enjoy spending time together. In Karen’s work to introduce Shamira to new and fun things they have formed a bond, a bond that links them as more then friends but as sisters.
